The supplement industry runs referral programs that look a lot like pyramid schemes — tiered commissions, ambassador ranks, recruit-five-to-earn structures, pressure to spam your feed. We didn’t want to build that. This is a flat, two-sided program: your friend gets $15 off their first bottle, you get a $15 store credit on your next order after their purchase clears the 30-day return window. No tiers, no quotas, no leaderboards. Capped at 12 successful referrals per account per year so it stays a referral program and not a side hustle.
Your friend: $15 off their first bottle, applied automatically when they sign up with your unique link. You: $15 store credit on your next order, auto-applied at checkout once your friend’s order clears the 30-day return window (credit appears on day 31). Capped at 12 successful referrals per account per calendar year. Links are generated in your account portal. No self-referrals. No fake accounts. Automated detection handles the rest.
How it works
Three steps. No app to install, no separate ambassador account. If you’ve bought a bottle, the program is already live in your dashboard.
- 1. Share your unique link. Sign in to your account portal and copy the referral link tied to your email. No code to remember, no checkout copy-paste.
- 2. Your friend gets $15 off their first bottle. The discount is attached to the link itself. When they click through and buy their first bottle (subscription or one-time), $15 comes off automatically at checkout.
- 3. You get a $15 store credit on your next order. Once your friend’s purchase clears the 30-day return window, a $15 credit is added to your account. It auto-applies at next checkout. Credit appears on day 31 and we email you when it lands.
That’s the whole flow. No activation, no monthly minimum, no requirement to stay on subscription. If you’ve cancelled and a past referral clears the window, the credit still arrives — it just waits for your next order.
Why we built this (and what it isn’t)
The supplement industry’s default referral structure is borrowed from MLM — five tiers, recruit-to-earn, downline commissions, monthly volume to stay qualified. We didn’t want anyone’s income to depend on convincing their cousin to buy probiotics. So we built the smallest, flattest version that still made sense.
- Not a pyramid. Exactly one level. You refer a friend, you get a credit. Your friend doesn’t earn anything by referring others to you. No second-level commissions, no team volume, no ambassador ranks.
- Both sides win equally. $15 for the friend, $15 for you. Symmetric on purpose — the friend isn’t paying for your incentive through a markup.
- Capped at 12 successful referrals per year. Roughly one a month — about how many people in a normal social circle genuinely have a gut concern at a given time. Past 12, the link still works for friends (they still get their $15 off), you just stop accruing credits until the cap resets January 1.
- No leaderboard, no contests, no badges. No top-referrer list, no quarterly sweepstakes, no status tiers. The reward is identical on referral one and referral twelve.
- Tell one friend who needs this rather than spam a hundred who don’t. The cap is the structural version of that sentence.
What counts as a successful referral
The program has a specific definition of “successful” so credits go out for real referrals only:
- The friend has to be a first-time customer. A new account placing a first order — not an existing customer using your link on their tenth bottle. The system checks email, billing address, and payment method to determine first-time status.
- The friend signs up using your unique link. Both the discount and the attribution ride on the link. If your friend goes to the site directly without clicking through, neither the $15-off nor your credit is created.
- The order has to clear the 30-day return window. Complete Gut Defense has a 30-day money-back guarantee for the customer; the referral program uses the 30-day window as the qualifying period.
- The credit appears on day 31. Automatic — you don’t need to claim it. Email notification, dashboard update, auto-applied at next checkout.
- Returns and chargebacks reverse the referral. If your friend returns inside 30 days, no credit is issued. If a later chargeback occurs, the credit is removed from your balance.
How to share your link
Your account portal generates one link tied to your email. Pre-written share copy is included for the most common channels so you don’t draft from a blank page.
- Email. A short, honest paragraph you can paste into a one-to-one note. Edit freely — it’s a starting point, not a script.
- Text message. A two-sentence version that fits inside a normal text. Kept short so it doesn’t read like a marketing blast.
- Social media. A longer caption for Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. Plain language, no hype, no urgency tactics.
- Reddit, Discord, and forums. Allowed where supplement recommendations are on-topic and the rules permit referral links. Drive-by link drops in unrelated threads get flagged by our automated detection.
- FTC-style disclosure. When you share publicly (not in a private email or text), mention you may receive a $15 store credit if a friend buys. The pre-written social copy already includes this line.
A few quick clarifications before the full FAQ
The detailed FAQ is below. Three short answers that come up often enough to surface here:
- You don’t need an active subscription to refer. Past customers can refer. The link stays active as long as your account is in good standing.
- The friend’s $15 stacks with subscription discounts. If your friend signs up on Subscribe & Save, they get the subscription discount and the $15-off referral, on the first bottle.
- The credit is store credit, not cash. It applies to any product purchase in your account. We don’t pay out cash, gift cards, or external rewards.
Terms and fine print
The plain-English version. The legal version is in the program agreement linked at signup; the two say the same thing.
- No self-referrals. Detected via matching email patterns, shipping address, and payment instrument. Self-referrals don’t generate credits and may pause the account pending review.
- No fake accounts. Throwaway emails, address recycling, and payment-method recycling are detected and reversed. Edge cases (a spouse with a different last name, a roommate sharing a delivery address) are reviewed manually before any action.
- No spam. Unrelated-subreddit drops, comment-spamming, mass-DMing strangers, and paid bot traffic are caught and reversed.
- Capped at 12 successful referrals per account per calendar year. Past 12, the link still works for friends; you stop earning credits until the cap resets January 1.
- Credits expire 12 months from issue and are non-transferable.
- We can change or end the program with 30 days’ written notice. Credits already in your account at the time of any change remain valid through their original expiration.
- This is not a medical recommendation program. Complete Gut Defense is intended to support general digestive and microbiome wellness; it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the most common questions.
When exactly do I get my $15 store credit?
Day 31 after your friend’s order. The 30-day return window has to close before the referral qualifies, so the credit is issued the day after — automatically, with an email notification, and auto-applied to your next checkout.
Can I refer my spouse or someone in my household?
Generally no — shared shipping addresses and payment methods are flagged as self-referrals. Genuine edge cases (an adult child or roommate with their own card and account) are usually handled correctly by the system. If a legitimate household referral is flagged in error, email support for manual review.
Can I post my link on Reddit?
Yes, in subreddits where supplement recommendations are on-topic and the rules allow referral links. Disclose that you may earn a credit (FTC requirement for public posts). Not allowed: unrelated threads, subreddits that ban affiliate links, drive-by drops with throwaway accounts. That behavior triggers detection and reverses any credits.
What happens if my friend returns the product?
If the return is inside the 30-day window (where most returns happen), the referral doesn’t qualify and no credit is issued. If a credit was already issued and a later chargeback occurs, the credit is reversed. You don’t owe anything — it just disappears from your balance.
How long do I have to use my store credit?
Twelve months from issue. The expiration shows next to each credit in your dashboard. Oldest-first rule applies at checkout, so nothing expires unused if you’re ordering regularly.
Can I refer multiple friends in the same month?
Yes — up to the annual cap of 12. No monthly sub-cap. If five friends sign up in the same week, all five are eligible.
Are the store credits taxable?
We don’t provide tax advice, but the IRS generally treats store credits issued as referral rewards as a price reduction on a future purchase — not taxable income — because the credit only redeems against our products and has no cash value. We don’t issue a 1099 for referral credits.
The shorter version
Share your link with the friend who’s actually mentioned gut, bloating, or microbiome stuff to you recently. They get $15 off, you get $15 back. No tier to climb, no quota to hit. If nobody in your life genuinely needs a daily probiotic right now, don’t send it. Tell one friend who really needs this rather than spam a hundred who don’t — that’s why we capped it at twelve. Your link is waiting in your account portal.
